Only Ghanaian nationals, in Ghana or abroad, who are graduates from a tertiary institution and meet the eligibility criteria can apply.

For 2022 there are two types of scholarships from the Embassy of France in Ghana:
1. The master’s degree & PhD Scholarships 2022-2023 for Ghanaian students (partial scholarship, which means that the student is required to find complementary funding)
2. The Joint Scholarship Programme with Ghana Scholarships Secretariat 2021-2022 for masters and PhD students (full scholarship).

Both scholarships are on the same application form. You can choose to apply to either the joint scholarship or the partial one.

- You must first be sure you are eligible for the scholarship(s) by reading the call for application on the Embassy’s website (CLICK HERE)
- You must have gained admission to a French institution in France or be awaiting admission. You will be asked to show any document proving that you have either been admitted or are awaiting admission (i.e. the Etudes en France application process).
- You must gather all required documents. Beware, some of the documents may take time to obtain (e.g., reference letters), so do not start the process at the last minute.
- After this, you may prepare and go ahead to submit your scholarship application file.

For an application file to be considered complete both hard copies and soft copies of documents must be sent.
For the Embassy of France Scholarship (only), you will have to send soft copies to FranceGhanaScholarships@gmail.com and post/submit the hard-copies at the Embassy of France in Ghana. The file should be addressed to Service de Coopération et d’Action Culturelle (SCAC) à l’Ambassade de France au Ghana, 4th Circular Road, PO BOX 187 Accra.
For the Joint Scholarship with ScholSec, you must send soft-copies of your application documents to FranceGhanaScholarships@gmail.com and submit the hard-copies at the Embassy of France in Ghana as well as the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat.

Aside sending the soft copies to FranceGhanaScholarships@gmail.com, you have the option to either post or submit your hard copies at the Embassy of France in Ghana only or at the Embassy of France in Ghana as well as Scholarships Secretariat depending on the type of scholarship.

Only Master’s and PhD programmes in the indicated disciplines are eligible for a scholarship. Year abroad programmes or French courses (if not at master’s level) are not eligible for a scholarship.

There are multiple programs in various universities in France. Some taught in English, French or in both languages. You may find your preferred program on the Campus France Website or by visiting the Campus France offices the University of Ghana or KNUST campuses.

Complete and eligible applications are reviewed by a Selection committee The selection is based on the academic excellence of the candidate, on the motivation to go to France, and on the relevance and robustness of the academic and professional project. After the review process, shortlisted candidates are called for an interview.

I am in the final year of my bachelor’s degree?
Yes, you can apply if you are in the final year of your bachelor and admitted into a master’s programme. However, to get the scholarship, you will be required to get an official proof that you passed your final year and were granted the bachelor’s degree before your departure to France. An exemption is made for KNUST students participating in the ISA Lille (3+2) exchange program.

The scholarship applies to both French public and private higher education institutions in France. However, it is encouraged that students apply for public universities.

An acknowledgement of receipt of a complete application (hard and soft copy) will be sent to you via email.

A proof of registration is a signed official document from a university stating that you have gained admission to the institution. In cases where a scholarship applicant has not yet received a response from a higher education institution in France, a proof of their application to the university will be accepted.

You are requested to provide an official letter from your PhD supervisor in France stating that he/she is accepting to supervising you for your PhD project in France.

Although the scholarship application form allows a maximum of three school choices (in order of preference), choosing only one or two schools does not affect your eligibility. It does however limit your chances to be accepted in a programme as some programmes are very selective.

The reference letter must be from your university of origin. Each institution has different ways of providing students with reference letters so you will have to check with your university or lecturers. Candidates should kindly do well to get their reference letters as early as possible to avoid delays.

You can choose to either write a cover letter in English or French. The letter must be a maximum of 1 page. However, if you are applying for the scholarship to cover a Master or PhD in French as a foreign language (FLE) it is advisable to write a cover letter in French and in English. Applicants for Master or PhD FLE must have at least DALF C1.

Documents do not have to be translated or written in French.

The scholarships cover only the tuition fee and not the application. Take note that no public university in France will require an application fee. Only private schools can sometimes ask for it

An impartial selection committee will go through each application carefully. A complete and quality application file increases your chance of being selected.

I cannot fund the other half?
If you get a scholarship from the French embassy and cannot co-fund it, you risk the chance of losing it. In the same way, if you get the scholarship and do not get admission to a school in France, you also risk the same fate.

All courses under the selected fields of study are eligible. Programmes taken in French universities partnering with your home university are encouraged.
